The Elementary School Education program prepares students to become teachers at kindergartens and/or elementary schools. Involvement in the physical and mental growth of children requires professional competence from teachers who can accept great responsibilities. Teachers who can devote themselves to fostering children's full human development are most wanted. The University gives its full support to those who aim to pursue this profession.
CURRICULUM
The major is divided into two sections: 1) Preschool Education Course and 2) Elementary Education Course. However, those who want to teach at both levels of education can specialize in both sections at the same time. In either case, the student must take basic courses in education and study the school curricula and teaching methods for various subjects at kindergartens and elementary schools. These courses involve not only those required reading of papers and books, but also provide the opportunity to learn many practical skills such as painting, music, physical exercise, and cooking. Elementary education students also participate in a seminar in a small group with other education major students and prepare for their graduation thesis.
The themes of the graduation theses deal mostly with practical studies. Many students collect their own data by means of questionnaires and interview surveys, and some students even conduct experimental studies of instructional methods and learning processes.
In the "Center for Study Support," students have access to various multi-media computer software which can be used for classes, study, or research related to graduation theses.
