第38回学長杯英語弁論大会が
        12月19日に開催されました。

The 38th President's Cup

      The 38th President's Cup, the English Speech Contest sponsored by the University of the Sacred Heart English Speaking Society (E.S.S.), was held on December 12th, 2004.

      The E.S.S. previous coach, Sr. June, and many professors in this University were in the audience at the Marian Hall that afternoon. The final speaker, Nanako Ishii from the University of the Sacred Heart won the second prize this year.

      In October 2004, four elimination judges selected ten speakers from the University of Tokyo, Hitotsubashi, Kwanseigakuin University, Hosei, Tsuda College, and the University of the Sacred Heart for the contest. The ten speakers rigorously tried to involve the audience with rhetoric, eye contact and gestures.

      The second prize winner, Nanako Ishii gave her seven-minutes speech entitled "For their Lost Childhood," in which she persuaded the child soldiers losing not only childhood but also their future.This year's contest was the first for the new E.S.S. coach, Yasubumi Hiyoshi and he gave the opening address in the ceremony.

      The next 39th President's Cup will again be held on Sunday in December next year.
