The Corpus of Multilingual Opinion Essays by College Students (MOECS)




The Corpus of Multilingual Opinion Essays by College Students (MOECS) is a collection of essays by college students. This is open to any researchers only for a research purpose. The corpus includes essays of English (collected in Australia including international students with English as a first language background), Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese first language (L1), and English of Japanese learners, Japanese of English learners, Japanese of Korean learners, and Japanese of Taiwanese learners.

The MOECS is useful for L1 studies, L2 studies and studies in L1 influence, written discourse studies, and more!

This work is primarily supported by (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C) (Grant Number 25370705, primary researcher Megumi Okugiri, co-researchers Kazuko Komori and Ikuko Ijuin, from April 2013 to March 2015) and Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B) (Grant Number 19720119, main researcher Ikuko Ijuin).
