The short story had a distinct development in America. We will follow how it developed by reading six stories by the greatest authors of twentieth-century America. Through individual presentations and discussions, we will develop communication and argument skills, learn the necessary literary terms to analyze and interpret fiction, and deepen our understanding of literature.
We will spend approximately two weeks for each story. A lecture will be given at the beginning on the author, literary movements and background necessary for analysis. 3 to 4 students will be assigned to present their analysis in English each week. Class discussions will follow. Students' understanding of the stories will be tested by short tests at the beginning of class. A deeper understanding will be tested in an essay exam at the end of the semester. Paragraph writing skills will therefore be necessary.

Do research to prepare for your presentations. Read every work carefully in English. Participate actively in the discussions. Take good lecture notes. Class will be conducted in English.
Evaluation will be based on the essay exam, presentation, active class discussion and reading tests.
