By the end of the course, students should 1)understand the concept of communicative competence, 2) understand the role of learners in second language learning, 3) understand their own characteristics as a learner of English, 4) be able to identify some characteristics of good language learners, and 5) set goals for their future study of English.
This course develops students understanding of goals in second language learning and how learners can reach these goals. Students will learn about different characteristics that can affect language learning and analyze what kind of language learner they are themselves. The course is both theoretical and practical. Students will carry out a mini-research project in groups in the second half of the term.
Materials will be distributed in class.
