One characteristic of our educational curriculum is the fact that the students choose their majors at the start of their second year. All first-year Sacred Heart students follow the Basic Program, which enables them to study a variety of subjects; the students then declare their chosen majors before the start of the second year. This unique system allows our students to discover their hidden aptitude and possibilities and to choose their majors with confidence; it is one of the reasons why the University is renowned for its liberal arts education.
The Graduate School of the Sacred Heart, based on the spirit of Christianity, aims to open doors for women to high-level academic research as well as to build their character, thereby contributing to the development of human culture and well-being. Our Master of Arts (M.A.) programs aim to provide students with wide-ranging academic knowledge taught from a broad perspective, assisting them to cultivate the competence required to carry out academic research in their fields and to work in highly specialized jobs. Our Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programs aim to nurture in the students high-level academic competence based on a rich scholarship, which equips them to become independent scholars or professionals in other highly specialized fields.
